New Event Series: UNFOLD

New Event Series: UNFOLD

22.02.2023

UNFOLD is a new bi-monthly event series hosted by ATÖLYE Architecture and XXI. Throughout the series, we will explore the process and power of design and architecture at our Istanbul Hub. The event series will be an opportunity to share and listen to inspiring stories as well as explore exciting innovations. It will also be an opportunity to engage and participate in meaningful dialogues and activities with a diverse group of people.

The first guests of UNFOLD are Assistant Professor, Instructor, and Member Derya Karadağ and Lecturer Betül Ozar, both from Işık University’s Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture.

In the first session of UNFOLD we will try to answer the question: “How is AI changing the course of design?”

In this third installment of Unfold, we’re diving into the need for diversity in architectural education, and the ways different programs can and should be combined for a more interdisciplinary approach with Nevzat Sayın (NSMH), Prof. Dr. Tansel Korkmaz Bilgin (İstanbul Kent University) and Sinan İzgi (AURA).

Join us for a discussion on different modes and approaches to architectural education with our three renowned guest scholars. Hear from leading educators about the impact of their vision on how we learn and practice architecture.

The event will be held on Wednesday, 26 April at 7 PM at ATÖLYE.

Note: This event will be held in Turkish, and in person.

February UNFOLD: How Can Participatory Urban Strategies Benefit Citizens and Promote a Culture of Safety?

We had a thought-provoking discussion with Tülin Hadi, the president of the Istanbul Citizens’ Assembly and the founding partner of TeCe Architecture, on participatory urban strategies and how they can benefit us all. From fostering a sense of community to promoting safety culture, we explored the many ways that involving citizens in decision-making can make our cities better places to live during the discussion moderated by Güray Oskay, Director of ATÖLYE Architecture.

With the recent earthquakes in the Maraş region and the potential one in İstanbul, we discussed the importance of having a tightly-knit community and involving citizens in urban planning and decision-making processes to create safer cities during emergencies.
